If you’re a small business owner, you’ve probably given some thought to SEO (search engine optimisation). It’s become a buzzword over the past few years, as it has an impact on your brand’s visibility online. However, most people think of it in terms of ranking and keywords, and they haven’t realised that video is as much a part of a good SEO strategy as copy is.


1. Increase Dwell Time

Recent studies have shown that 82% of those using video have seen that it increases dwell time. If people are staying longer on your site, this is only a good thing. Therefore, video marketing should be built into your SEO strategy, not an afterthought.

2. Reduce Your Bounce Rate

Visitors sometimes land on your page but only give it a glance before clicking onto another site. This means you’ll have a high bounce rate. If you have a video on your homepage, they will stay to watch it, which means a lower bounce rate – and MORE CHANCE to sell them something. Of course, the brand video needs to be engaging and you should use keywords in the description so that it can be found more easily.

3. Get a Higher SERP ranking

Did you know that Google gives preference to websites with good video content? This is a vital reason to get your video marketing on your website right the first time! High quality images and videos are key to higher ranking, which is all important if you want to be visible.  

4. Build Quality Backlinks

Videos are shareable (as long as they’re done well). When you link your videos and written content in the right way, you can achieve high quality backlinks. When someone likes, shares, posts to a story or tweets your video – this can and will improve your SEO. That boosts the strength of your domain too.



Videos help people know, like and trust your brand. Visibility is vital if you want to be successful, but you need to ensure that you’re creating quality video content so that your audience will pay attention and share it.
